  1. Hi all,

  3. Just a note to let you know we are now taking orders on the new Raptor 3
  4. with shipments planned for about 4 weeks from now.  The Raptor 3 is a
  5. complete Windows NT workstation that can be upgraded using CPU modules.  The
  6. modules will include MIPS, Alpha and other high-performance CPUs.  We expect
  7. to have at least 5 different modules, spanning a wide range of price and
  8. performance available in 1995.  Our decision to go modular was based on
  9. feedback from many of you that you required the flexibility and
  10. expandability to keep pace with the latest in microprocessor technology and
  11. that speed was more important than architectural heritage.  We listened.
  12.  
  13. The first CPU module is based on the awarding winning MIPS R4600.  This
  14. module running at the same clock frequency as in Raptor 2, is 30 to 50
  15. percent faster because of our unique 66Mhz, synchronous, 2-way set
  16. associative secondary cache.  Also, the main memory system is now either 64
  17. or 128-bits wide, nearly doubling the memory bandwidth over the Raptor 2.

  19. In about 90 days we expect to ship the Alpha 21064A module at speeds as fast
  20. as the processor will run, and we've seen them go as fast as 330Mhz.  And,
  21. within a few weeks after that we expect to have the newest member of the
  22. Alpha family the 21164.  This incredible processor is nearly twice the speed
  23. of the 21064A and the same clock frequency.  Our bank-interleaved 256-bit
  24. wide cache module for the Alpha processors will deliver unbelieveable
  25. performance at affordable prices.

  27. All of these modules fit into the same motherboard.  The motherboard, in
  28. addition to 4 PCI slots and 4 ISA slots also has TWIN SCSI ports.  Twin SCSI
  29. ports allow you to use Windows NT's unique disk striping feature, nearly
  30. doubling the disk access performance over a single SCSI port.

  32. If you are planning to invest in a new computer system for the release of
  33. Lightwave 4.0 for NT I suggest you look at Raptor 3.  It's a system with a
  34. future from a company with a history of experience and know-how in
  35. high-performance systems.
